Ivan Lendl successfully turned to pickleball towards the end of 2022 and, after initial skepticism, developed a passion for the sport. With precise groundstrokes and strategic play, he has dominated his opponents in tournaments of the 65+ category, and a few days ago he won the gold medals in men’s doubles (together with partner Larry Gold) and mixed doubles (together with partner JoAnne Russell) at the US Open Pickleball Championships in Naples, Florida. Lendl appreciates the sport as a knee-friendly, tactical workout and often combines it with golf. He practises targeted training, including repetitions of ‘dink shots’ near the net to refine his skills, and still enjoys the challenge of competition.
