Lendl and Murray separate for the third time

Former world number one Andy Murray and his long-time coach Ivan Lendl have once again declared their collaboration ended today. Lendl led the now 36-year-old Scot to three major titles and two Olympic gold medals. Since their partnership began in 2011, the duo have separated twice and most recently got back together in March of the previous year, but Murray was unable to build on his previous performances, especially at the big tournaments. In addition to the lack of success, the many trips were also said to have been a problem for Lendl. About the separation from Murray, the eight-time Grand Slam winner said: “I will look back with some great memories of the time Andy and I worked together. He’s as hard a worker as there is and the sport is better because of him. I wish him only the best in the years to come.” Murray made the following statement about the likely final separation from Lendl: “Ivan has been by my side at the biggest moments in my career. I can’t thank him enough for all that he’s helped me achieve. He’s a unique character who understands what it takes to win, and I’ve learnt an awful lot over the years from him.” The current number 42 in the world rankings will from now on rely on the coaching duo Mark Hilton and Jonny O’Mara.
